WHAT ARE MY HUMAN RIGHTS?

We live in a very diverse and multicultural society. Sometimes, there is inadvertent discrimination and sometimes its intentional. For employers its important that they not only recognize any forms of discrimination but take preventive measures as well. Failure to do so, can result in a lawsuit, or a human rights complaint.

In Ontario individuals cannot be discriminated against based on the fourteen grounds listed in the Human Rights Code. These grounds are as follows:

  • Race
  • Ancestry
  • Place of origin
  • Colour
  • Ethnic origin
  • Citizenship
  • Creed
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
  • Record of offences
  • Martial status
  • Family status
  • Disability

Individuals should be free from discrimination when it comes to areas of employment law.

There are certain exceptions to the discrimination provisions. If you are unclear call me a Mississauga Employment Lawyer.
