Small Claims Court Settlement Conference

I posted an entry last week about small claims court. Small claims offers people access to justice at a relatively small cost. Within a few months you can be in front of a judge.

This is for a mandatory settlement conference. A small claims court settlement conference involves the attendance of all parties within the lawsuit. You can attend alone or with your lawyer.

The intent of the conference is to resolve any outstanding disputes and to try and settle the matter. In addition, they can also provide a party with a better understanding of what a judge at trial might think about their case.

Many small claims disputes are settled at settlement conferences.

Loss of Income

If you have been injured in a car accident, slip and fall or any other type of accident a part of your claim against the other party can include a loss of income portion. This is income you would have earned but did not due to the injuries sustained in the accident.

If you did return to work you can still make a claim for loss of income, if you were denied promotions or suffered a demotion or reduction in your income. Pending of course, it is proven that the injuries from the accident caused you an inability to perform your duties.

Loss of income is a tricky area, ensure you hire a personal injury lawyer that is familiar with your claim for loss of income.
